THE DESIGN STATEMENT

Atlantis The Royal

Palm Jumeirah · Dubai

A sculptural arrangement of terraces and sky-high spaces. The Royal puts architecture, destination dining and distinctive suites at the centre of its identity.

OUR PERSPECTIVE

A compelling place to investigate for a design-focused occasion. A private pool is room-category specific; compare what your chosen suite actually includes.

THE ENDURING ICON

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab

Jumeirah coastline · Dubai

The sail-shaped landmark that became part of Dubai’s visual identity. Set just offshore, it remains an address to understand when exploring the city’s luxury hotel story.

OUR PERSPECTIVE

One for a future shortlist. The hotel is closed for a restoration programme; verify reopening information with Jumeirah before planning a stay.

This is a researched editorial selection, not a firsthand hotel inspection or a ranked top-ten list. Facilities, rates and availability can change; confirm details with the hotel. View our sources.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Start with the stay
you actually want.

Beach mornings or city evenings? A room with a view or a suite with space? Our journal helps you ask the questions that make a difference.

Sources and how we selected these addresses

We selected these properties to illustrate three distinct hotel identities. Recommendations are editorial interpretation based on published property information, not firsthand service assessments.

No paid placements are included in this selection.

There is a best hotel for your trip.

Every list that ranks thirty-seven hotels one to thirty-seven is answering a question nobody asked. Four shortlists, each built around a decision you are actually making.

BEFORE THE HOTEL

Choose the district first.
It decides more than the hotel does.

Dubai is forty kilometres of coast. A five-star room in the wrong district means a taxi every time you leave it, and the distances are longer than the map suggests.

WHAT TO CHECK

Five things that change
what you are actually buying.

01

The room category, not the hotel name.

A private pool, a sea view or club access belongs to a category, not to a property. At Atlantis The Royal a Sky Pool Villa has the infinity pool; most rooms do not. Read the description of the exact category you are booking.

02

Whether the beach is the hotel's.

Several Dubai hotels advertise beach access that means a shuttle, a shared public stretch, or a club with a separate charge. Our cards say which, and where the operator publishes a day-pass price we print it.

03

What is closed on the property.

Seven restaurants and a pool deck at one resort have been paused since April 2026. A hotel can be open while the reason you chose it is not. The tracker lists all thirty-five.

04

The kids' club terms, in writing.

Ages, hours and cost vary enormously and most operators publish none of them. Four of the sixteen family hotels publish all three, which is the only reason we can compare them honestly.

05

Which award, and from when.

An award badge has no expiry date. Dubai’s most-decorated readers’-choice hotel has been closed all year and still carries its 2025 badge on a major guide. Ours name the list, the category and the year.

STATUS

Five hotels on every list
that you cannot book.

Checked 24 September 2026 against the operator or a dated report.

  • Burj Al Arab Jumeirah — closed April 2026 for an eighteen-month restoration; reopening indicated about October 2027, rooms not bookable until June 2027.
  • Armani Hotel Dubai — closed 1 April 2026; phase one January 2027, full reopening about March 2027.
  • Park Hyatt Dubai — closed until about November 2026, and still carrying a 2025 readers' choice badge on at least one major guide.
  • The St. Regis Dubai, The Palm — guest rooms offline until 1 November 2026. Trèsind Studio and Smoked Room kept trading throughout.
  • Anantara World Islands Dubai — closed for good in April 2026. The operator's page is still live.

Questions readers ask

What is the best hotel in Dubai?

There is no single answer and any page that gives you one is selling something. By award count it is Jumeirah Al Naseem, the World Travel Awards' Middle East's Leading Hotel in both 2025 and 2026. By the World's 50 Best Hotels 2026 it is Atlantis The Royal at fourth in the world. By privacy it is the Bulgari, with 101 rooms on its own island. We have not stayed in any of them, so those are other people's verdicts quoted with their dates, not ours.

How many hotels are there in Dubai?

Dubai's tourism department counted over eight hundred hotel establishments in recent years. We cover about fifty-five, chosen because they are the ones people actually shortlist against each other, and we say on each page which are researched guides rather than firsthand reviews.

Which Dubai hotels are closed right now?

The Burj Al Arab until about October 2027, Armani Hotel Dubai until about March 2027, Park Hyatt Dubai until about November 2026, and the St. Regis Dubai The Palm's guest rooms until 1 November 2026. Anantara World Islands closed permanently in April 2026. All five still appear on major guides as bookable.

Where should I stay in Dubai for the first time?

Downtown Dubai if you want the Burj Khalifa, the Mall and the Fountain on foot with the metro to Old Dubai. JBR if a beach outside the door matters more. Our area comparison sets out the trade in each of the ten districts.

Is Palm Jumeirah a good place to stay?

For a beach resort holiday, yes: the private beaches and the scale are there, and both of the city's three-star restaurants are on the island. For anything else, it is a commute. The fronds are dead ends and the Crescent does not join up, so every dinner off the property is a car.

Which Dubai hotels have the best kids' clubs?

On published terms, Fairmont The Palm: 18 months to 12 years, 10:30 to 19:00, two free hours a day for guests then AED 85 an hour. Address Beach Resort's Qix Club is free for ages four to sixteen. Most operators publish no terms at all, which is the point of our family page.

Do Dubai hotels include breakfast and transfers?

Rarely by default at the luxury end, and the difference between rate plans is often larger than the difference between hotels. Compare the same dates, occupancy and cancellation terms before comparing properties, and confirm restaurant reservations separately from the room.

Are Dubai hotel prices lower in summer?

Substantially, and for a reason: July and August run above 40°C and several outdoor attractions and beach clubs close. Global Village, Miracle Garden, Dubai Safari Park and Hatta all reopen in October. Our things-to-do page marks which entries are seasonal.
