A considered view of luxury

DUBAI · PALM JUMEIRAH · PROPERTY PROFILE

Atlantis, The Palm:
the honest verdict.

The waterpark is included, the resort is built around children and it costs roughly half what The Royal does. The rooms are smaller and Ossiano is closed. Here is how that nets out.

Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai illuminated at dusk
Atlantis, The Palm, Palm Jumeirah. Photograph cropped for display.

Atlantis, The Palm has been the resort that defined family luxury in Dubai for most of two decades. It still does the job, and it does it for roughly half what its newer sister charges.

The case for this resort is easy to state. Aquaventure World and Lost World Aquarium are included in every room rate, the whole property is organised around children, and the entry rate sits well below Atlantis The Royal next door for a stay that shares the same beach, the same waterpark and the same island.

The case against is equally easy. Entry rooms are 45 to 47 sqm against The Royal’s 55 to 60. It is a 1,544-room resort and it feels like one. And its most famous restaurant is currently closed.

Our verdict

The better-value half of Atlantis Dubai and, for most families, the better choice outright. Entry rooms are around 10 sqm smaller than The Royal's and the resort is far busier, but the waterpark and aquarium are included, the whole layout is built around children, and the saving is substantial. Check whether your specific rate includes breakfast.

Book it if

  • Families who want the waterpark to be the point of the trip
  • Anyone weighing real cost against roughly 10 sqm of extra room space at The Royal
  • First-time visitors who want the recognisable Atlantis experience
  • Groups needing interconnecting space, at 90 to 94 sqm for six

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a quiet, adult, design-led stay
  • You are booking for Ossiano specifically, which is currently paused
  • Entry room size matters to you, at 45 to 47 sqm against The Royal's 55 to 60
  • You want unlimited kids club sessions rather than one included session a day
01

The rooms, and
which one to book.

The Deluxe range is straightforward. King and Queen rooms share the same 45 to 47 sqm footprint and differ only in beds and rated occupancy. The Family Room is two interconnecting rooms at 90 to 94 sqm.

The family default is the Queen Room. Two queen beds inside the standard footprint, rated for two adults and two children or three adults and one child. A family of four does not need to move up to a Family Room unless they want two bathrooms and separation, which is what the 90 to 94 sqm interconnecting pair actually buys.

Imperial Club is the decision that matters here. Unlike at The Royal, where breakfast is already included in every rate, the Imperial Club upgrade at The Palm carries breakfast, afternoon tea and a sunset happy hour, plus a private beach, private check-in, a dedicated concierge and an AED 50 Wavehouse credit. If your rate does not already include breakfast, price the upgrade against buying breakfast for your party each morning before dismissing it.

The Underwater Suite is the room everyone asks about, with floor-to-ceiling views into the Ambassador Lagoon. Configuration and rate change over time and we have not verified current specifications, so confirm both directly rather than relying on any third-party description, including ours.

02

What the rate includes,
and the breakfast question.

Included in the room rate

  • Unlimited access to Aquaventure World, the waterpark
  • Unlimited access to Lost World Aquarium
  • One complimentary daily session at Atlantis Explorers Club, the kids club
  • Access to the resort beach and pools
  • AWAKEN fitness centre

Costs extra

  • Breakfast, unless your rate plan or an Imperial Club booking includes it. The published Deluxe Room inclusions do not list it
  • Additional Explorers Club sessions beyond the one included each day
  • Imperial Club lounge, private beach and happy hour
  • Dolphin Bay and other marine experiences
  • Airport transfers
  • Dubai tourism dirham, charged per room per night at the property

Indicatively USD 400 to 600 for an entry Deluxe room in high season Two adults, room only, before tax and the Dubai tourism dirham. Indicative from published rates and recent guest reports, not a live quote. Checked 19 September 2026.

Breakfast is the item to check. The published Deluxe Room inclusions do not list it. It appears instead among the Imperial Club benefits. Many rate plans sold through the resort and through travel partners do bundle breakfast, so this is not a claim that you will go without. It is a claim that you should read your specific rate rather than assume, because the resort’s own published room inclusions do not promise it.

The kids club is one session a day. Atlantis Explorers Club offers one complimentary daily session with a Deluxe room. Additional sessions cost extra. Royal guests next door receive unlimited sessions. For a week-long stay with two children, that difference is worth pricing.

The waterpark genuinely is included, without a per-day cap, along with Lost World Aquarium. For a family that intends to use it daily, this is the single biggest reason the headline rate compares well with city hotels that charge separately for a day pass.

03

The waterpark,
in practical terms.

Aquaventure World is the reason most people book this resort, and it is included without a daily cap. It is worth understanding what that actually covers.

Over 105 slides, rides and attractions across the park, which the resort describes as the world’s largest. It is a full day out rather than a hotel water feature, and for a family staying several nights the included access is the largest single line item that would otherwise be paid for separately.

Lost World Aquarium is also unlimited and included, and it is the indoor answer to the middle of a summer afternoon.

Dolphin Bay is not included. Marine experiences there are charged separately. Budget for it if it is on your list rather than assuming it comes with the room.

The resort beach and pools are included, and guests may also use the pools and beaches at Atlantis The Royal next door, which is a useful release valve when The Palm’s own pools are busy.

For a family of four intending to use the waterpark most days, this inclusion is worth more than the room-size advantage The Royal holds. That is the core of the value argument for staying here.

04

Dining, and
the Ossiano problem.

Ossiano, the underwater restaurant set against the Ambassador Lagoon, is one of the two or three things this resort is known for internationally. It has been on temporary pause since 20 April 2026, alongside Brasserie Frantzen, as part of a group of seven venues paused across Atlantis Dubai. No reopening date has been published.

RestaurantCuisineStatus

OssianoUnderwater seafood fine diningTemporarily paused since April 2026
Brasserie FrantzenFrench and Nordic brasserieTemporarily paused since April 2026

What remains open is substantial: Nobu Dubai, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, and FZN by Bjorn Frantzen, which is a full Nordic tasting-menu restaurant. Wavehouse is the family venue, with bowling, an arcade and soft play, and it is the answer to a rainy or over-hot afternoon.

If you are booking this resort specifically to eat at Ossiano, confirm its status in writing before you pay for anything.

05

Where it is,
and what that costs you.

Same island, same trade-off as its sister. The resort sits at the top of Palm Jumeirah’s outer crescent, with its own beach, and everything beyond the Palm is a drive.

These times come from published guidance rather than our own measurement, and the table says so. We do not present an estimate as a measurement.

06

When to go, and
the age question.

The comfortable season runs roughly November to March and carries the highest rates. Summer is very hot and rates fall sharply, which suits this resort better than most: with a waterpark, an aquarium and indoor family venues all included, a July stay has somewhere to be that a city hotel cannot offer.

On the age of the property. Atlantis, The Palm opened in September 2008 and has 1,544 rooms. A resort of that age and scale will not feel as sharp as a building completed in 2023, and that is the honest trade against the rate. We have not inspected rooms ourselves and will not characterise their current condition beyond that. Our first firsthand stay will address it directly and this section will be updated with what we find.

School holidays fill this resort. If your dates are flexible, a shoulder week buys the same inclusions with materially fewer people in the queues.

What guests
consistently report.

What reviewers actually report

Sampled on 19 September 2026. We read 1 published firsthand reviews in full, listed at the foot of this panel, and recorded each platform's own rating. Themes below are counted by how many of those sources raised them. We reproduce no review text and we do not present any platform's score as ours. Individual guest reviews on Tripadvisor and Booking.com were not machine-readable to us; where a theme comes from guest reporting surfaced in search results rather than a review we read in full, it says so. One firsthand review is a thin sample and we say so rather than implying more.

  • Resort size makes navigation slow1 of 1 firsthand reviewGetting between the room, the beach and the waterpark takes real time
  • Limited adults-only pool space1 of 1 firsthand reviewRaised as a minor complaint rather than a serious one
  • One bathroom sink in shared rooms1 of 1 firsthand reviewA practical annoyance for four people sharing
  • Musty smell in lower-floor rooms of the older wingGuest reports surfaced in search, not read in fullAttributed to Palm Jumeirah humidity, with a high floor, tenth or above, repeatedly recommended as the fix

Where our sources disagree

Reports on room condition conflict. Recent guest reporting describes the rooms as refreshed, calm and surprisingly coastal against the noise of the lobby, while other 2026 accounts describe a musty smell in lower-floor rooms of the older wing. Both can be true across 1,544 rooms refurbished in phases. The practical response is the same either way: ask for a high floor in writing when you book.

Upgraded PointsRoom 11349, West Tower, 11th floor, double queenA May stay in roughly 38C heat
Expedia guest ratingAggregate of 1,627 guest reviewsRecorded 19 September 2026

Two things stand out from the sample. The first is that the complaints are almost entirely about throughput rather than quality: queues at the waterpark entrance, thirty to forty-five minute waits for the major slides in the December and January peak, and the time it takes to walk anywhere. Nobody we read complained about the beds, the staff or the food.

The second is the floor-level advice that recurs in 2026 guest reporting. Lower-floor rooms in the older wing are described as carrying a musty smell, attributed to humidity on the Palm, with a tenth floor or above repeatedly suggested as the fix. That is a free upgrade request, and it costs nothing to make it in writing when you book.

Set against 1,627 reviews behind Expedia’s 9.4, none of this reads as a property in trouble. It reads as a very large resort that is busy, which is exactly what it is.

Three alternatives
worth comparing.

Atlantis The Royal. Next door. Larger rooms, breakfast included as standard, unlimited kids club sessions, and roughly double the rate, with its signature rooftop pool currently closed. Our head-to-head comparison works through which one suits which kind of trip.

Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Complimentary access to Wild Wadi for guests, a long-standing family reputation and a Jumeirah rather than Palm location, which shortens most city drives. Profile to follow.

Centara Mirage Beach Resort. Considerably cheaper, built around its own waterpark, and the right comparison if the waterpark rather than the luxury positioning is what you are buying. Profile to follow.

09
