THE DUBAI EDIT · SEPTEMBER 2026
THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN DUBAI · CHECKED 20–24 SEPTEMBER 2026

The best things to do in Dubai, starting with the famous one that is closed

Thirty things worth a day or an evening, with prices, hours, seasons and the status of each. The Museum of the Future is shut until early 2027, the Fountain is back, Ain Dubai turns again, and four of the big parks reopen in October.

Museum of the Future
The Museum of the Future. Its own site says it is temporarily closed, press reports from 1 September 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. It is the first thing every guide lists and the first thing we cut.

Photograph: EditQ, via Wikimedia Commons (CC0).

Dubai’s attractions have a seasonal rhythm that the guides ignore. Between April and October the outdoor parks close, the balloons stop flying, half the beach clubs pause, and this year the Museum of the Future joined them: its own page says temporarily closed, with the press giving 1 September 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. So the first job of this page is to say what is open now. The second is what it costs on the operator’s own site rather than a reseller’s, which turned out to be harder than it should be: the Burj Khalifa and Ain Dubai ticket sites refused our requests, and the prices shown for both are what resellers print, labelled as such.

Thirty entries, grouped by the kind of day: the icons, the culture, beach and water, desert and nature, and the family parks. Where an entry is seasonal the card says when it opens (Global Village on 14 October, the Safari Park on 12 October, Hatta on 28 September, Miracle Garden in October with no date yet). Where two sources disagree, as they do about Wild Wadi, the card says that too.

What is not here: the Museum of the Future, the Dubai Balloon at Atlantis (paused with no date), the Dubai Museum in Al Fahidi Fort (closed since 2021), Dubai Parks and Resorts (closed since March with an October return reported), and everything inside the Burj Al Arab until late 2027. All of them are still on other lists.

How to read this page

  • Prices are the operator's where we could read the operator's page; reseller prices are marked as such. Confirm before you pay.
  • Status: green is confirmed open; amber is seasonal, disputed, or not re-checked this week; the card says which.
  • Seasons matter: five entries are closed in September and reopen in October.
  • Map links open Google Maps at a name search for the venue.
  • Many attraction sites block automated reading; where a field is empty we could not verify it rather than would not.
01

The icons

Eleven things you came for. The Burj Khalifa’s decks, the Fountain (back since October 2025), the Frame, Ain Dubai (turning again since May), the Palm’s observation deck, Sky Views’ glass slide, a seaplane, the Creek Harbour promenade and the zipline over the Marina that we could not confirm for September.

Downtown Dubai
Price
Levels 124+125: reseller-reported AED 173 adult non-prime / AED 250 prime (4-7pm); Level 148 SKY reseller-reported from about AED 399. Official ticket page returned HTTP 403 on 20 Sep 2026 - treat as indicative.per thebettervacation.com
Hours / season
Daily; non-prime from 9am, prime 4-7pm, evening non-prime from 8pm to midnight (reseller-reported)
Best time
Book the slot 45-60 min before sunset to see day, dusk and the lit-up city; go early morning for the cheapest, quietest visit.
Status
Openchecked 20 September 2026

Observation decks on levels 124/125 (452 m) and the SKY lounge on level 148 (555 m) of the world's tallest building.

The one Dubai ticket almost everyone buys, and the price bands reward planning: non-prime slots are markedly cheaper than the 4-7pm sunset window. Level 148 buys a quieter lounge and refreshments rather than a meaningfully different view.

Note: The official ticket site refused our request, so the prices shown are what resellers print. The sunset window (16:00 to 19:00) costs markedly more than any other slot on every reseller we read; the view does not change.

Downtown Dubai
Price
Aquarium & Underwater Zoo admission reseller-reported at AED 175; the concourse viewing panel is freeper travelarbitrage.net
Best time
Weekday mornings for the mall; the free viewing panel is best after 8pm when the tour groups thin out.
Status
Not re-checked this weekchecked 20 September 2026

Mega-mall at the foot of Burj Khalifa with a 10-million-litre aquarium tank visible free from the concourse and a ticketed tunnel plus underwater zoo.

The aquarium's giant viewing panel costs nothing and is the sensible way to see it; the paid tunnel and zoo are short. The mall itself is a destination for the Fountain, the Burj Khalifa entrance and air-conditioned walking between them.

Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa Lake)
Price
Free to watch from the promenadeper emaar.com
Best time
Evening shows after dark; arrive 15 minutes early to claim a spot on the lakeside rail near Souk Al Bahar.
Status
Openchecked 20 September 2026

Choreographed fountain shows on the 30-acre Burj Khalifa Lake, free to watch from the promenade.

Reopened on 1 October 2025 after a five-month drain-and-retile closure, with a second upgrade phase (new features, sound and lighting) reported complete in Q2 2026. The show is the free anchor of any Downtown evening; the lakeside promenade and the Souk Al Bahar bridge are the classic vantage points.

Note: Reopened on 1 October 2025 after five months drained and retiled; Emaar reported the second-phase upgrade complete in the second quarter of 2026. Free from the promenade.

Zabeel Park

150 m picture-frame structure with a glass-floored sky bridge framing old Dubai on one side and new Dubai on the other.

Cheaper and less crowded than Burj Khalifa, and its position between Deira and Downtown makes the old-versus-new view informative rather than just tall. The ground-floor galleries are quick; the bridge is the point.

Bluewaters Island

Status
Openchecked 20 September 2026

250 m observation wheel with 38-minute rotations over JBR and the Palm.

Reopened 26 December 2024 after a closure that began in March 2022, and back on standard hours after a precautionary shutdown in spring 2026. Sunset rotations are the draw; the cabins are large and shared unless you pay for private.

Note: Closed from March 2022 to 26 December 2024, paused again as a precaution in spring 2026, and back on standard hours from 19 May 2026 per Time Out. Its own site refused our request; the AED 145 figure is from the May report.

Palm Jumeirah (The Palm Tower)
Best time
Sunset for the fronds against the low sun; book the earliest sunset-adjacent slot.
Status
Not re-checked this weekchecked 20 September 2026

Level 52 observation deck at 240 m on top of The Palm Tower, looking straight down the fronds of Palm Jumeirah.

The only viewpoint from which the Palm reads as the palm you have seen in photographs. Quicker and cheaper than Burj Khalifa, with an optional upgrade to level 54 with refreshments.

Note: A reseller quoted about AED 66, which is implausibly low against every other listing, so no price is shown.

Scenic flights over the Palm, Burj Al Arab, Downtown and the coast with operators such as Seawings (seaplane) and HeliDubai.

The only way to see the Palm, the World Islands and the coast in one frame. Helicopter is cheaper per seat and shorter; the seaplane's water take-off is the experience.

Urban zipline, 1 km long at up to 80 km/h, running across Dubai Marina from the Amwaj Towers to Dubai Marina Mall.

The fastest urban zipline ride in the city and a good view of the Marina at speed. It was taking bookings through 31 May 2026 with a summer operating update promised; the operator's site lists daily slots but timings change by season, so confirm the September calendar before recommending.

Note: Bookings ran to 31 May 2026 with a summer update promised; the operator’s page lists daily slots ‘subject to season’. Not confirmed for September.

Downtown Dubai (Address Sky View)
Price
From about AED 130 observation (reseller-reported); Glass Slide and Edge Walk extraper travelarbitrage.net
Best time
Evening slots for the Edge Walk in September to avoid the heat.
Status
Openchecked 20 September 2026

Observation deck at 219 m with a glass-floored bridge, a glass slide down the outside of the tower and an outdoor Edge Walk.

Confirmed open through summer 2026. The Edge Walk (harnessed, outside the building) is the real thrill; the observation level is a cheaper, closer-in alternative to Burj Khalifa with a view of Burj Khalifa itself.

02

Culture and heritage

Al Fahidi, Al Seef, the abra and the souks are the half-day that explains the city; the Etihad Museum explains the country for AED 25; the Jumeirah Mosque tour is the one place a non-Muslim can ask anything; Alserkal Avenue is the art district; Dubai Opera is the evening.

Bur Dubai and Deira (Dubai Creek)

Best time

Status
Not re-checked this weekchecked 20 September 2026

Restored wind-tower quarter and creekside promenade on the Bur Dubai bank, an abra crossing, and the working Spice and Gold souks on the Deira bank.

The only stretch of Dubai where walking is the activity, and the abra is the cheapest ride in the city. Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort has been closed since 2021, so plan around the lanes, the SMCCU cultural meals and the souks rather than the fort; the souks are working markets, so hawkers and haggling are part of it.

Note: The Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort has been closed since 2021 and is still on most itineraries. The quarter, the abra crossing and the souks are the point; the museum is not.

Museum on the site where the UAE's founding document was signed in 1971, with the restored Union House.

The best short course on how the UAE was formed, told through documents, film and the founders' personal effects. Ninety minutes is enough, it is rarely crowded and at AED 25 it is the cheapest ticket on this list.

Note: One reseller sweep gave AED 149 to 159, which is the Museum of the Future’s price mis-filed; two dedicated guides give AED 25 and that is what we show, pending an official check.

Warehouse arts district with commercial galleries, Cinema Akil, concept stores and cafes.

Dubai's contemporary art scene in one walkable compound, free to browse. Galleries keep their own hours and the area is quiet in summer; evenings during the October-May season are when it comes alive.

Dhow-shaped 2,000-seat performing-arts venue for opera, ballet, touring musicals and concerts.

The programme is the reason to go, not the building; check the season calendar because September is typically light before the October-May season. Sight-lines and acoustics are good, and the Fountain is a short walk for the interval.

Aquaventure is open through the summer. Wild Wadi’s status is disputed and its card explains. Kite Beach and J1 Beach are free; Deep Dive Dubai is the deepest pool in the world, in Nad Al Sheba.

Large waterpark at Atlantis The Palm with the Trident Tower slides, Aquaconda, the lazy river and a private beach.

Operating year-round and confirmed open through summer 2026, with extended evening openings on some weekends. The Atlantis restaurants Ossiano, Dinner by Heston, Ling Ling, La Mar and Brasserie Frantzen have been paused since 20 April 2026, so do not plan a dinner around the park visit.

Note: Open through the summer. Note that five Atlantis restaurants have been paused since 20 April 2026, which matters if the waterpark day was going to end at Ossiano.

Jumeirah's Arabian-themed waterpark with the Jumeirah Sceirah speed slide, wave pool and Burj Al Arab as the backdrop.

Reported temporarily closed from 25 March 2026 as a precaution with no date given as of May 2026, but on 24 September 2026 the official site carried no closure notice and published daily hours and prices; treat as open but confirm on the day. Burj Al Arab next door is closed until around October 2027, so the backdrop is scaffolded.

Note: Two sources, two answers. Press in May 2026 said it had been closed since 25 March with no date; the park’s own site on 24 September shows daily hours and prices and no notice. Nobody has published a reopening story. Ring 800 AMAZING before you go.

Conservation-led desert evenings and mornings inside the DDCR with operators such as Platinum Heritage (vintage Land Rovers, falconry) and Arabian Adventures.

The DDCR is the only desert where dune-bashing is banned, wildlife is protected and the camp experience is not a coach-tour scrum. Pay for the reserve rather than a cheap dune-bashing 'safari' on the roadside dunes.
