Ajman's beach. The emirate's four Corniche resorts share this sand.
Ajman is 260 square kilometres, the smallest emirate, and the one with the least to prove. Its Corniche resorts are the cheapest private beaches within an hour of Dubai; its mangroves at Al Zorah are the best kayaking in the northern Emirates; and its two exclaves in the Hajar mountains, Masfout and Al Manama, are the kind of day trip nobody plans and everybody enjoys.
The emirate is licensed, unlike Sharjah next door, and cheap, unlike Dubai. Museum entry is AED 5. A kayak hour in the mangroves is under AED 100. The golf club at Al Zorah publishes its green fees. There is very little to book ahead and very little that closes seasonally, which makes Ajman the easiest emirate on this site to visit without a plan.
What is missing: the Oberoi at Al Zorah, closed since Oberoi’s exit in February 2025 and being rebuilt as a Four Seasons that had not opened when we checked. Most guides still list it.
Before you go
40 minutes from Dubai International off-peak; over an hour at 18:00.
Licensed hotels; Bahi Palace opts out.
Museum AED 5; mangrove kayak from AED 95 an hour.
Masfout and Al Manama are 90 minutes inland: a full day.
November to April for the beach and the kayaking.
01
Al Zorah
The mangrove reserve and the golf club at the emirate’s northern edge. Kayak in the morning; the Four Seasons being built here is not open.
4 km beachfront esplanade from Coral Beach roundabout to the (ex-Kempinski) Ajman Hotel; sheltered tidal pool, cafes, Attibrah and Themar Al Bahar; Fairmont, Ajman Saray, Bahi Palace front it.
For a beach weekend at a third of Dubai's price, yes. For the mangroves at Al Zorah, yes. For sights, it is a half-day: the museum, the Corniche, the fish market.
Is alcohol available in Ajman?
Yes, in licensed hotel venues. Bahi Ajman Palace is voluntarily dry.
What is there to do in Ajman?
Kayak the Al Zorah mangroves, play the Al Zorah golf course, visit the fort museum, walk the Corniche, eat at the fish market, and drive to the Masfout and Al Manama exclaves in the mountains.
