Short answer: book Atlantis, The Palm. For most travellers in late 2026 it is the better buy, because The Royal’s two signature advantages, its rooftop pool and its celebrity-chef dining, are substantially unavailable while its rate has not moved. Book The Royal if you want a Sky Pool Villa with a private pool, if room size matters, or if you are staying long enough that included breakfast and unlimited kids club sessions close the price gap.
The two resorts sit next door to each other on the outer crescent of Palm Jumeirah, share a beach and a waterpark, and are run by the same operator. Guests at either can use the pools and beaches of both. That makes this one of the cleanest hotel comparisons in Dubai: almost everything is held constant, so the differences that remain are the whole decision.

What the two resorts share,
and why it matters.
Before the differences, the constants. These are the things that are identical at both properties, and they remove a surprising amount of the decision.
The island and the beach. Both sit on the outer crescent of Palm Jumeirah, minutes apart, with the same stretch of coastline and the same drive to everywhere else in Dubai. Transfer times are effectively the same from either.
The waterpark and the aquarium. Unlimited access to Aquaventure World and to Lost World Aquarium is included in room rates at both. Neither resort has an advantage here.
Cross-resort access. Guests can use pools and beaches across both Atlantis Dubai properties. Staying at The Palm does not lock you out of walking over, and vice versa.
The operator. Both are Kerzner International properties, run to the same standards and affected by the same group decisions, including the April 2026 restaurant pauses.
The practical consequence is that location, beach access and waterpark access should play no part in this decision. They are constants. What is left is room size, what the rate includes, what is currently open, and price.
The four differences
that actually decide it.
1. Room size. Entry rooms are 55 to 60 sqm at The Royal and 45 to 47 sqm at The Palm. Family rooms are 110 to 120 sqm against 90 to 94 sqm. That is a real gap, roughly a quarter more space, and it is the most defensible reason to pay The Royal’s premium.
2. Breakfast. Included with every guest room at The Royal. Not listed among the published Deluxe Room inclusions at The Palm, where it appears in the Imperial Club benefits instead. Many Palm rate plans do bundle it, so compare the actual rates in front of you rather than the brochures.
3. The kids club. Unlimited Atlantis Explorers Club sessions at The Royal, one complimentary session a day at The Palm. This is the finding that most surprised us, because it runs directly against the received wisdom that The Palm is the family resort.
4. What is currently closed. The Royal has lost Cloud 22, its 22nd-floor infinity pool, since April 2026, plus Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Ling Ling and La Mar by Gaston Acurio. The Palm has lost Ossiano and Brasserie Frantzen. Proportionally, The Royal has lost more of what made it distinct.
How the room categories
map across.
The two resorts use different names for broadly equivalent rooms, which makes rate comparison harder than it needs to be. This is the translation.
| At The Palm | The equivalent at The Royal | Size difference | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| King Room | Palmscape or Seascape King | 45–47 sqm vs 55–60 sqm | Roughly a quarter more space, plus breakfast included |
| Queen Room | Palmscape or Seascape Queen | 45–47 sqm vs 55–60 sqm | Both are the sensible family-of-four booking at their resort |
| Family Room | Family Room | 90–94 sqm vs 110–120 sqm | Two interconnecting rooms at both; The Royal is about 20 sqm larger |
| Imperial Club | Royal Club | Comparable | Imperial Club adds the breakfast The Palm does not otherwise include. Royal Club adds drinks on top of breakfast that is already included |
| Underwater Suite | No equivalent | — | The aquarium view is unique to The Palm. Confirm current specification directly |
| No equivalent | Sky Pool Villa | 118–168 sqm | A private infinity pool exists only here, and it is the strongest single reason to choose The Royal |
Two conclusions fall out of this table. At entry level you are comparing like with like, plus about 10 sqm and a breakfast, which makes it a judgement about money. At the top there is no comparison at all, because only one of the two resorts sells a room with its own pool.
Six scenarios,
six answers.
Travelling with children under five. The Palm. The resort is designed around it, Wavehouse handles the hot afternoons, and the saving funds more of the trip. The one caveat is the kids club allowance; if you expect to use it daily for a week, price The Royal’s unlimited sessions before deciding.
Honeymoon or a milestone occasion. The Royal, but only in a Sky Pool Villa. The private infinity pool is category-specific and it is the thing worth paying for here. In a standard Palmscape room the occasion argument mostly evaporates, and a quieter property such as One&Only The Palm would serve better.
A first visit to Dubai. The Palm. It is the recognisable Atlantis, the waterpark is included, and the money saved covers the city itinerary you will want on a first trip.
A design-led weekend. The Royal, with reservations. The building is genuinely remarkable and Carbone and Estiatorio Milos are both destinations. But with Cloud 22 shut you are paying the design premium and losing the design centrepiece.
A dining-led trip. Neither, at the moment. Between them the two resorts have paused five notable restaurants since April 2026. If the meals are the trip, book a city hotel and eat across Dubai rather than committing to one island.
Value-conscious upgrade. The Palm, in an Imperial Club room. That buys breakfast, afternoon tea, a sunset happy hour and a private beach, and it still lands below a standard Royal room in most seasons.
What you are actually
paying the difference for.
Our indicative bands, checked on 19 September 2026, put an entry Royal room at roughly USD 900 to 1,300 in high season against roughly USD 400 to 600 at The Palm. These are indicative figures drawn from published rates and recent guest reports, not live quotes, and both move sharply with season and availability.
Treat the gap as buying four things: about 10 sqm of extra room, breakfast, unlimited kids club sessions, and a newer building. Previously it also bought Cloud 22 and a stronger restaurant roster. It does not currently buy those, and that is the single most important sentence on this page.
Run the arithmetic on your own party. Two adults and two children staying seven nights, using the kids club daily and eating breakfast at the hotel, close the gap considerably. A couple staying three nights and eating out does not close it at all.
Before you book
either one.
Six things to confirm in writing, whichever way you go. Each one corresponds to a claim on this page that could change after we published it.
- The status of any restaurant or venue that is a reason for your booking. Five notable venues across the two resorts have been paused since April 2026 and no reopening dates are published.
- Whether your specific rate includes breakfast. It is standard at The Royal and not listed in The Palm’s published Deluxe inclusions.
- Your kids club allowance. Unlimited sessions at The Royal, one complimentary session a day at The Palm, with extra sessions chargeable.
- That a private pool is attached to your booked category. At The Royal that means a Sky Pool Villa by name; no other guest category has one.
- The Dubai tourism dirham, charged per room per night at the property and usually absent from the headline rate.
- Airport transfers. Included with suites at The Royal, chargeable otherwise at both.
None of these is exotic. All six are routine sources of arrival-day disappointment, and all six are answerable by email before you commit.
The verdict,
stated plainly.
Atlantis, The Palm is the better booking for most people in late 2026. It delivers the substance of the Atlantis experience, the waterpark and the aquarium and the beach, at close to half the rate, and it has lost proportionally less to the current round of closures.
Atlantis The Royal remains the better hotel in the abstract, and it is the right answer for a Sky Pool Villa booking, for anyone who values room size highly, or for a long family stay where included breakfast and unlimited kids club sessions do real work. It is not currently the right answer for a rooftop pool or for celebrity-chef dining, because those are the two things it cannot presently supply.
Whichever you choose, confirm the status of any venue that is central to your trip in writing before you pay. That advice would have been unnecessary at this resort two years ago. It is not unnecessary now.

Questions
readers actually ask.
Which is better, Atlantis The Royal or Atlantis, The Palm?
For most travellers in late 2026, Atlantis, The Palm, because it costs roughly half as much for the same island, beach and included waterpark access, and because The Royal's signature rooftop pool and three of its headline restaurants are currently closed. The Royal is the better choice for a Sky Pool Villa booking, for larger rooms, or for long family stays.
Can Atlantis, The Palm guests use Atlantis The Royal facilities?
Guests can use pools and beaches across both Atlantis Dubai resorts. Restaurant reservations and ticketed venues are separate, so confirm specifics with the resort.
Is Atlantis The Royal worth the extra money?
It buys roughly 10 sqm more room space, included breakfast, unlimited kids club sessions and a newer building. It does not currently buy Cloud 22 or the paused restaurants. For a long family stay the inclusions close much of the gap; for a short couple's stay they do not.
Do both Atlantis resorts include the waterpark?
Yes. Unlimited access to Aquaventure World and Lost World Aquarium is included in room rates at both properties.
Which Atlantis is better for families?
The Palm on price and on design intent, with Wavehouse and a layout built around children. The Royal on inclusions, with unlimited kids club sessions against one a day and a 110 to 120 sqm family room against 90 to 94 sqm.
